Long Island Woman Accused Of Setting Fire At Group Home

Six residents and two staffers have been displaced from a group home on Long Island after a woman allegedly set fire to a mattress.

The Nassau County Police Arson Bomb Squad said the incident took place around 1 a.m., Friday, Jan. 26 in Locust Valley.

According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a house fire located at 67 1st St. A mattress was set on fire and the Locust Valley Fire Department responded to extinguish the flames. 

Lauren Gach, age 32, of Locust Valley, admitted to starting the fire and was arrested and charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person and two counts of reckless endangerment, police said.

The residents have been displaced and relocated to another facility.

Gach will be arraigned on Friday, Jan. 26, in Hempstead.
